Evidence-Based Practice and Practice-Based Evidence

Vivi Technologies used in healthcare practice are optimized to support clinicians' need for quick access to internal and external evidence. The electronic health record, a source of internal evidence, can be integrated with external evidence consisting of carefully selected, high quality primary health care research as well as reviews and synopses of that research.

Building Evidence Literacy Skills

CHE has a rich learning package, called Evidence Literacy, built around the Evidence-based Information Cycle. Consisting of up to 15 modules, Evidence Literacy is optimized for asynchronous, online learning. Modules of the Evidence Literacy curriculum integrate readings, narrated presentations, online research resources, opportunities for discussion among students and between students and instructor, and interactive activities to build expertise in evidence-based practice.

Evidence-based Information Cycle

The Evidence-based Information Cycle is a framework for understanding the process of practicing evidence-based care.

ASSESS clinical or policy problems and identify key issues;
ASK well-built questions that can be answered using evidence-based resources;
ACQUIRE evidence using selected, pre-appraised resources;
APPRAISE the validity, importance and applicability of evidence that has been retrieved;
APPLY evidence to clinical or policy problems.
