Project Description

The TORCH Program is a translational cardiovascular research program dedicated to developing the next generation of cardiovascular health research leaders. TORCH is an integrated program at the Universities of Alberta and Calgary with the mission to prepare Canada's next generation of trans-disciplinary cardiovascular health research leaders through a structured, dynamic and innovative training program.

CHE's Role

CHE built the capacity to create and sustain the information and on-line educational resources required to design, deliver, monitor, and evaluate the TORCH virtual learning community. CHE is working with TORCH mentors, trainees and staff members to provide the learning technologies and processes to support the TORCH curriculum, mentoring process, and trans-disciplinary research collaboration. CHE also maintains the TORCH website.

Partners

The TORCH Program was born from an initiative by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to encourage trans-disciplinary, integrative health research and to build capacity of the Canadian health research community through the development of researchers and the provision of sustained support for scientific careers in health research. This grant was provided in partnership with the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (Co-Lead), the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (Co-Lead) and the Institute of Gender and Health.
