Opportunities

Introduction

The CHE operates under the leadership of Drs. Robert Hayward and Bruce Fisher, and focuses primarily on the practice of evidence-based health care, and the teaching of evidence-based health care to adult learners.

Since our inception in 1999 we have increased our staff numbers five-fold, and developed expertise in information technology and evidence-based practice. We have undertaken projects with organizations around the world, and pride ourselves on being "messengers of EBM" to other health practitioners in developed and underdeveloped countries across the globe. The EBM movement is spreading and the CHE is pleased to be playing a role in guiding others as they start on this journey.

This page contains information on how you can become involved with the CHE team. While our role is not in offering courses directly, we take advantage of opportunities to connect with others who share similar goals.

The Centre for Health Evidence has opportunities for people who would like to become involved as CHE project partners, collaborators, fellows, students, and employees. In all cases, feel free to contact us at for more information.

Project Partners

Each Centre for Health Evidence operates by taking on grant-funded projects. Projects may be research-based, and are founded in the teaching or practice of evidence-based decision-making.

We welcome partners with a vision of lifelong learning through distance education as a way to maintain the competency and performance of health professionals in the workplace.

Collaborators

Collaborators are friends of the CHE for whom we run workshops and provide other services for a fee, but without an associated grant. If you are interested in seeing a demo of the CHE services or desktops, please contact us.

We also welcome collaboration with individuals interested in the Users' Guides Interactive (UGI) project. For more information, see the UGI project page.

Employees

The Centre for Health Evidence employs people with diverse backgrounds to help us achieve our vision. Our staff currently consists of physicians and other health care professionals, librarians, information technologists, programmers, administrative staff, and management staff who bring with them a variety of backgrounds and experience from the front line, academic and research perspectives. CHE is an equal opportunity employer.

Fellowship

The CHE introduced fellowship positions in 2000. The fellowship program offers MD, PhD, and health informatics students with unique opportunities for career development in the field of evidence-based Informatics. The CHE provides space, equipment, training, and educational grants.

Students

The CHE regularly accepts medical and library students who are doing informatics rotations or practicums. If you are a student and would be interested in doing a rotation or practicum with the CHE, please contact us.

Associates

We welcome inquiries from people with common interests who wish to collaborate on activities that would help to achieve the goals of both parties. Groups might include departments or organizations at the University of Alberta, or organizations across the province or around the world. In the past the CHE has welcomed both students and practitioners to explore methods of practicing and teaching an evidence-based approach to health.

Volunteers

We invite people interested in volunteering their time to contact us to explore mutually-beneficial arrangements.

Other

If you have ideas about how to improve the planning, design, development, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based programs, we would be interested in exploring how we can work together on your ideas.
